There changes to the OHSA Regulations that will take effect on Feburary 1, 2008.

Part 3: Rights and Responsiblities


The changes in this section are
- A wording change on when a Health and Safety Committee is required.
- Including in the OHSA regulations the schedule for Minimum Levels of First Aid required at the work place.
- A new section is added about Air Transportation - when it must be available and communitcation arrangements.


Part 4: General Conditions


The changes in this section are
- Including a section on Working Alone or In Isolation - defining what that means and what the employer's obligations are, with some examples.
- Including a section on Late Night Retail Safety - defining what that is and again the employer's obligations.

Part 5: Chemcial Agents and Biological Agents



The changes in this section are
- Adding definitions for adverse health effects.
- changing wording in General Information Requirements.

Part 6: Substance Specific Requirements


The changes in this section are to emphasize that the scope is not limited to blood-borne or body fluid-borne pathogens.
- Changes and additions to definitions.
- Changes to Exposure Control Plans.
- Changes to Controls, Labeling and Indentification.
- Changes to Vaccinations and Medical Evalutions.

Part 9: Cofined Spaces


The changes relate to working in isolation in conffined spaces.

Part 11: Fall Protection


The changes relate to fall protection for stunt workers.

Part 13: Ladders, Scaffolds and Temporary Work Platforms


The changes in this section are in subsections:
- Division 5- Movable Work Platfoms - Work Platforms on wheels - a complete rewording of this section.
- Lift Truck Mounted work Platforms - a rewording of the regulations for use of short duration, infrequent work.
- Fall Protection - changes to wording to recognize that not all people involved in the work are employees (defined as workers in Workers Compensation Act.). Also addition of section on persons not requiring fall protection on outrigger or suspended mason's scaffolding with guard rails.
- This amendment includes a draft of the proposed standards 13.30 for design and use of lift truck platforms.

Guidelines Additions and Changes


The recent change is a description of the authority of the BC Safety Authority and its relationship to WorkSafeBC. A very interesting artical to read. Most guidelines are interesting as they give more explantions for the what is happening and why.
